Yarn Carbon Footprint

At The Mill

Mills operate on tight budgets, so they strive to minimize losses from inefficiency. A yarn's mill footprint is calculated based on:

  • The type of power used (electricity, natural gas, etc).
  • The amount of power used annually.
  • The percentage of the mill's overall production which is dedicated to yarn (many mills have lines dedicated to products other than yarn).
  • The amount of yarn which the mill produces annually.

At the mill, the raw fleece will lose about half of its weight in being converted to yarn.
